Our Story

It started
in the mountains

Both of us grew up on Long Island. Years later, on a snow-draped porch at Mohonk Mountain House in the Hudson Valley, Sanjay asked Priya to marry him — and she said yes.

This November, we’re bringing everyone we love to New York City — the place we now call home — to celebrate the next chapter the way it began: surrounded by warmth, in good company, and no shortage of joy.

“And so, the adventure begins.”

A Little Context

What to Expect

Some of our celebrations follow Indian traditions that may be new to a few of you — and that’s wonderful. Here’s a warm, no-pressure guide to each, so you can simply relax and join in.

HaldiFriday · daytime

A bright morning ritual where family and friends gently dab turmeric paste on the bride and groom. It’s said to bless the couple and give them a glow for the wedding — and it’s as joyful and messy as it sounds.

  • What happens: turmeric, music, blessings, and a lot of laughter.
  • What to wear: something colourful you won’t mind getting a little yellow.
  • How to join: take a dab of haldi, add your blessing, and snap a photo — everyone takes part.
SangeetFriday evening · The Lighthouse

The big night before the wedding — an evening of music, dancing, and performances from both families. Expect choreographed numbers, a packed dance floor, and a whole lot of joy.

  • What happens: family performances, dinner, and dancing late into the night.
  • What to wear: colourful Indian festive or cocktail attire — something you can dance in.
  • How to join: cheer the performances, then get on the dance floor with us.
The BaraatSaturday · before the ceremony

The groom’s grand arrival. Sanjay leads a lively procession of family and friends — dancing to the beat of the dhol (drum), sometimes with the groom on a beautifully decorated horse — all the way to the ceremony. It’s pure celebration.

  • What happens: drums, dancing, and a joyful escort to the mandap.
  • What to wear: your ceremony attire — and comfortable shoes help.
  • How to join: dance in. The more energy, the better.
The Wedding CeremonySaturday · Hall des Lumières

The heart of the weekend. Under the mandap — a decorated canopy — and guided by a priest, Priya and Sanjay exchange vows through a series of meaningful Hindu rituals, including circling the sacred fire and taking the seven steps of marriage. There’s Sanskrit, symbolism, and a great deal of meaning.

  • What happens: sacred rituals, blessings, and the moment they become husband and wife.
  • How long: this is the longest event — settle in and soak up the meaning.
  • What to wear: traditional or festive attire; modest coverage is appreciated.
  • How to join: watch, take it in, and share in the joy — you’ll be cued when to celebrate.
The ReceptionSaturday evening · Hall des Lumières

The grand finale — cocktails, dinner, heartfelt toasts, first dances, and a dance floor that won’t quit. A glamorous send-off to the weekend.

  • What happens: cocktails, dinner, speeches, and dancing.
  • What to wear: formal or cocktail attire.
  • How to join: eat, drink, dance, and celebrate with us.

Getting There

Travel & Shuttle

A few notes to make the weekend easy. More specifics — including any shuttle between venues — will follow closer to the date.

Airports

Flying In

JFK, LaGuardia (LGA), and Newark (EWR) all serve Manhattan. Allow 45–75 minutes by car, depending on traffic.

By Subway

Around the City

The Lighthouse: A/C/E or 1 to 23rd St, then west to the Hudson. Hall des Lumières: any train to Chambers St / Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall.

Cars & Rideshare

Taxis & Uber

Yellow cabs and rideshare are everywhere and usually the simplest way between events. Both venues have nearby drop-off.

Shuttle

Between Venues

We may arrange group transport for parts of the weekend. If we do, timings will appear here — check back closer to November.

While You’re in the City

A Few New York Favourites

For those travelling in, a small, unfussy list to fill the hours around the celebrations. The whole city is yours — but here is where we’d begin.

By the Sangeet

Chelsea & the Hudson

Walk the High Line at golden hour, wander the Chelsea galleries, and watch the sun set over the river from the piers — all minutes from The Lighthouse.

By the Ceremony

Tribeca & SoHo

Cobblestone streets, cast-iron facades, and quiet cafes just south of Hall des Lumières — the most photogenic corner of downtown for a slow morning.

Classic New York

The Essentials

Central Park, the Met, a night on Broadway, and the Brooklyn Bridge at dusk. Timeless for a reason, and easy to reach from anywhere in Manhattan.

Getting around is easiest by subway or a quick yellow cab — most of the city is closer than it looks.
